MTRF Znojmo Grape
The international festival of TV and radio programmes and commercials on gastronomy “The Znojmo Grape” was initiated in 1999 and is now in its 13th year.
By choosing gastronomy as its main theme, we have filled a niche in the variety of international festivals and facilitated the presence of renowned foreign producers who have done important work in the field of gastronomy, such as the BBC, TF1, RAI, ORF and others.
In the 12th year, some 300 programmes from 18 countries entered the competition.
From the first year, we have been focusing intensely on accompanying events, such as public projections of competing programmes, exhibitions of leading Czech painters and illustrators, concerts, tastings of wines from top Czech and foreign wine producers, and since the fifth year also junior sommelier and barmen competitions.
This year, 2011, we shall continue our series of open-air events in the town´s largest square, the Masaryk Square.
We follow up on the tradition of National Days on which we present the culture, gastronomy and ethnic specialities of selected countries. Each country´s promotion films will be screened at the same time.
In the 7th year, when we started these national afternoons for the first time, we had made use of an already running collaboration with countries like Vietnam and Slovakia, while at the same time enlarging the TV section by other interesting regions like Mongolia. In the year 2006, we had The United Kingdom, Lower Austria, Croatia and Flanders. The year 2007 followed up with Hungary, China and Austria, 2008 Estonia, France and Latvia, 2009 Sweden, Rumania and the Czech Republic, 2010 Egypt and Italy.
We believe that our events will draw a large local and visiting audience to the Festival town and its Masaryk Square.
For the embassies of the respective countries, the festival will provide a podium, kitchen facilities, sound and projection equipment and security guards. It will also provide accommodation for each country´s organization team and presenters, and also local transport.
The countries presenting their gastronomy and culture this year will be The Netherlands and Mexico.
